Be it excess consumption of unhealthy processed food and drinks or lack of exercise or an unhealthy sleeping pattern, there are various factors that can lead to a high blood pressure. It is a chronic disease that you cannot eliminate entirely. But rather than going on statins (which I hate), it’s advisable and wise to try out natural remedies first. Even if you already are on statins, natural remedies can go side by side and they might help you get rid of these meds. High blood pressure has the potential to dismantle your heart and vascular system. Thereby, it is of utmost importance to maintain your blood pressure levels to prevent any further catastrophic events. Again, listing down two of my favorite kitchen solutions, which have been used as traditional remedies for decades and have the potential to stabilize your condition.
Garlic Cloves:
In double-blind studies with garlic, preparations provided a daily dose of at least 10 mg allicin. Blood pressure readings dropped with typical reductions of 11 mm Hg for the systolic and 5.0 in the diastolic. This occurred within a 1 to 3-month period. To get enough allicin, eat 1 to 4 cloves of fresh garlic a day. If you do not want to chew it, crush it, leave it for 5 mins (to allow the juices to secrete) and then have it with water. Best is to have it first thing in the morning to avoid garlic breath for the rest of the day.
Coconut Water:
Increasing potassium through the diet is a well-established way to lower blood pressure. Coconut water may contain more than 600 mg of potassium per serving, an amount higher than one serving of just about any other food or beverage. Because of its high potassium content, coconut water has been studied for its effects in controlling high blood pressure and has been shown to decrease both systolic (the top number) and diastolic (the bottom number) blood pressure. However, too much of a good thing, even if it’s all natural, isn’t always safe. Anyone with a heart condition or kidney disease needs to avoid overdoing it with coconut water and talk to their doctor about how much potassium is safe to consume. Use good judgment and limit your intake to a few servings a day.
